Corrected 2 November 2026: Atlanta's garage figure now uses the Daily decks, as our method states. It had used the Hourly decks.
Key findings
- The terminal garage costs a median $110 more than an off-airport lot over Thanksgiving weekend, across 25 major U.S. airports. The typical off-airport lot is a median 67% cheaper.
- The biggest gaps are in New York. At LaGuardia the garage costs $269 more, at Newark $242 and at JFK $214.
- Most off-airport lots charge no holiday premium. Lot for lot, the median price change between Thanksgiving weekend and the same trip a week later was zero at 23 of the 25 airports. Where prices did rise, it was mostly at New York's airports and San Diego, where the typical lot costs 8–13% more over Thanksgiving.
- The narrowest gap is Fort Lauderdale. The garage's long-term levels are only $20 a day, so it's $34 more.
The index
Off-airport prices are the full price on Triply, including taxes and our service fee. The garage price is the airport's own posted rate for its terminal garage (or terminal lot at Dulles), for the same trip.

Tips for Thanksgiving travelers
- Book the lot before you leave home. Off-airport prices weren't higher for the holiday, but lots do fill up. In our check, lots near ATL, BOS, BWI, EWR, PHX and SAN that were open the week after were already unavailable for Thanksgiving weekend, and several more near Denver had only limited space left.
- If you have to use the garage, pre-book it. JFK, LGA, EWR, BOS, LAS and DFW sell garage spaces online for less than the drive-up rate.
- Check the shuttle before you book. Many off-airport lots run a free shuttle, but the frequency varies a lot. Some run every 10–15 minutes and others only when you call.
How we built it
The full method, with what is included in every price and what we leave out, is on how we build the price index.
- Trip: drop off Wednesday 25 November 2026 at 10am, pick up Sunday 29 November at 2pm. Most garages bill that as 5 days.
- Off-airport prices: every lot with open availability on triplypro.com on 28 October 2026 for those dates. Lots showing only limited space were left out, so counts are understated at a few airports (most at Denver). The price includes taxes and Triply's service fee. "Typical" is the median lot, so the cheapest lot doesn't skew the figures. Prices can change as lots fill.
- Holiday comparison: the same lots priced for Wednesday 2 to Sunday 6 December.
- Garage prices: each airport's posted rate for its terminal garage, taken from the airport's own website on 28 October 2026. Where an airport has several, we used the lowest terminal garage rate (e.g. JFK Terminal 8, LGA Terminal A, EWR Terminal A). Where the airport states how a partial last day is billed, we used that rule. At Atlanta we used the North and South Daily decks at $30 a day, not the Hourly decks ($50 for day 1, then $75 a day). Denver's figure is the airport's own cost estimator for this trip. Boston bills the last 4 hours at $23, so its figure is $207. Everywhere else we used the daily maximum × 5. Where an airport doesn't say how a partial last day is billed, that's an upper bound, and the real cost could be somewhat lower. Garage prices don't include online pre-booking discounts.
- Not included: Austin, Nashville and San Francisco, because we couldn't confirm their garage rates on the airport's own site, and other airports where we sell lots but haven't verified a garage rate.
