Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) handled 73.7 million passengers in 2025 — the 5th busiest in the U.S. and the world's busiest origin-and-destination airport (most passengers start or end their journey here rather than connecting). 9 passenger terminals span Terminals 1–8 plus Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT). Terminal 5 closed for construction in October 2025 and reopens around 2028.

LAX is host airport for the 2028 Summer Olympics and is in the middle of the largest construction program in its history — multi-billion dollars across the Automated People Mover (APM), the new Consolidated Rent-A-Car Facility (ConRAC, opened March 2026), Terminal 4/5 modernization, TBIT renovations, and the Midfield Satellite Concourse South (8 new gates, opened October 2025).

On-airport parking is among the most expensive at any U.S. airport. CTA terminal garages run $60/day general or $70/day premium. Valet hits $75/day. Economy Parking is $35/day. Budget Parking is $20/day. Off-airport parking through Triply typically costs a fraction of the terminal garage rate; the lot list on this page shows current per-day rates, and a search with your dates shows your total with taxes and fees.

Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles Hotel — Closest bookable lot at 1.0 mile. Hotel valet parking (operated by AAA Parking) with a 24/7 airport shuttle every 25–30 minutes. Shuttle pickup at LAX is on the upper departures level under the red "Hotel shuttles and private parking shuttle" sign.

Sonesta Los Angeles Airport — Hotel valet parking 1.1 miles out. 24/7 shuttle every 25–30 minutes from the same upper-level red-sign pickup.

South Bay Airport Parking - 105 — Covered garage 1.2 miles out, just off Sepulveda Blvd near the 105 and 405. Valet or self-park (levels 3 and above). 24/7 shuttle every 20–30 minutes. Free EV charging (Blink, on six valet-only spaces). Max clearance 6'10".

Travelodge by Wyndham LAX South — Hotel lot 1.2 miles out. Shuttle every 30 minutes from 5 AM to 12:30 AM — no shuttle 12:30–5 AM, so plan a rideshare for very early flights.

Fox Parking — Valet lot 2.1 miles out with luggage assistance. 24/7 shuttle every 15–20 minutes. SUVs, trucks and minivans pay $1.50–$8/day extra at the lot depending on size; no trailers, campers or RVs.

Simply Park — Seven levels of covered self-parking plus a rooftop, 2.2 miles out off I-405 and Century Blvd. Complimentary 24/7 shuttle every 30 minutes. Staff on site 24/7. Max clearance 6'8".

405 Airport Parking — Gated lot 2.2 miles out off I-405 and Century Blvd, with security cameras and staff on site. 24/7 on-demand shuttle — call for your airport pickup.

9750 Airport Blvd (formerly Four Points by Sheraton) — 1.4 miles out. No shuttle — you arrange your own ride to the terminal. Nothing larger than a minivan, and no trailers. Keep the ticket you take on arrival and show it with your reservation when you leave, or you may be charged the drive-up rate.

LAX-it is the designated rideshare and taxi pickup area at LAX, located adjacent to Terminal 1 on the west end of the Central Terminal Area. Required for all Uber, Lyft, Opoli, and taxi pickups. Free LAX-it shuttle buses arrive at each terminal outside baggage claim and travel on a dedicated lane to LAX-it.

Premium services (Uber Black, Black SUV, XL, Lyft Black, Lux) pick up directly at the terminal curbside — they skip LAX-it.

What's coming:

• Automated People Mover (APM) — 2.25-mile elevated guideway connecting 6 stations: 3 in CTA, Economy Parking, LAX/Metro Transit Center (Metro C and K Lines), and ConRAC. Construction completion targeted June 2026 ahead of FIFA World Cup. First-ever rail connection to LAX terminals.

• LAX/Metro Transit Center — OPENED June 2025. Connects Metro C Line (Norwalk to Hawthorne) and Metro K Line (Crenshaw to Redondo Beach) plus 11 bus routes. Direct APM connection coming when APM opens (~June 2026).

• TBIT Renovation — Began January 2026 ahead of 2028 Olympics. Modernization of check-in hall and arrivals area.

Once APM opens, rideshare pickup is expected to transition to a new location connected via the people mover.

LAX has the widest parking price range of any major airport. Here's the breakdown for a 5-day trip:

On-Airport Economy Parking: $175 (5 × $35) — free shuttle every 10–15 minutes

On-Airport Budget Parking: $100 (5 × $20) — drive-up only

Public transit alternatives:

• FlyAway Bus to Union Station: $25.50 round-trip per person. 30–60 minutes.

• Metro C/K Lines + LAX Shuttle: $3.50 round-trip per person. 60–90 minutes (depending on origin).

For solo travelers headed downtown, FlyAway at $25.50 round-trip beats parking for any trip length. For couples or groups with luggage, off-site parking is often the better play.

• Pre-book online for any major event — 2026 World Cup, 2028 Olympics, and major concerts/sports events at SoFi Stadium and Crypto.com Arena spike demand.

• EV charging across all CTA garages and Economy Parking — 305 EV charging stations on Level 1 of Economy Parking alone (largest at any U.S. airport). Level 2 chargers at $2/session + $0.45/kWh; DC Fast Charging at $2/session + $0.80/kWh. Use the PowerFlex app.

• Marine fog (May Gray / June Gloom) is the main weather risk — Pacific Ocean marine layer brings morning fog from May through June, occasionally July. Adds 15–30 minutes to morning departures. Book afternoon flights to avoid.

• LAX-it is required for Uber/Lyft — Free LAX-it shuttle from any terminal. Lanes 2–4 for Uber, 5–7 for Lyft. Premium services pick up curbside.

• Terminal 5 is closed — JetBlue moved to Terminal 1, Spirit moved to Terminal 2 (October 2025). Verify your terminal before traveling.

• Traffic is the X factor — I-405/I-105 traffic can turn a 16-mile drive from downtown into 60+ minutes. Allow extra time, especially around rush hour.

• 2026 World Cup, 2028 Olympics impact — Multiple major events will compress airport demand. Book parking weeks ahead.
