Where the Garage Is and How to Get to the Terminal

The Garage is the closest lot to the terminal building, and you walk in; there is no shuttle.

It is the airport's own suggestion if you want to park and walk a passenger into the terminal. The garage elevator was replaced and reopened in March 2026. Accessible spaces are available at the standard daily rate with a state placard, plate or decal, and wheelchair help from your vehicle is available on (865) 342-3180 from 5 AM to 7 PM.

Height Clearance, EV Charging and Vehicle Rules

The Garage clears vehicles up to 7' 2", and its EV charging spaces are on the first level.

  • Height: 7' 2". For taller vehicles, call Republic Parking at (865) 970-2749 before you come.
  • EV charging: charging spaces are on the first level. The airport does not publish how many chargers there are or what charging costs.
  • Motorcycles: not permitted in any airport lot, including the Garage.
  • Oversized vehicles: trailers, motorhomes and buses are not permitted.
  • Maximum stay: 30 continuous days without prior approval.

Covered Parking in Snow and Ice

The Garage is the only covered parking at TYS, and the airport gives it out first come, first served in bad weather.

The airport pretreats roads and lots before snow and ice but does not plow or scrape inside parking areas, and it warns that heavy accumulation can stop a car from leaving. Fees still apply if that happens. If snow is forecast while you are away, remember that covered Garage spaces go first come, first served.

How Full Does the Garage Get?

The Garage can run near capacity, so check before you leave. The airport's live parking capacity shows how many of its 2,338 spaces are taken. The airport's busiest periods are 5 to 7 AM, 11 AM to 2 PM and 4 to 6 PM. If the Garage is full, Terminal Lot A ($16/day) is the next closest walk, and the Economy Lots ($13/day) have a shuttle every 15 minutes; our Knoxville airport economy lot guide explains how the shuttle works.

New Parking Garage at McGhee Tyson Airport

A new six-story garage with 3,500 more spaces is under construction, and the airport says it will be complete in summer 2027.

It is the first project in the airport's Flight Plan program, budgeted at $186 million. The airport's parking map lists it as coming soon and closed. A covered walkway between the new garage and the terminal is also under construction. To build it, the left lane of the lower-level roadway closest to the garage is closed through spring 2027, curb parking is not allowed there, and the lane reopens during peak holiday periods. The airport says access to the terminal, garage and parking lots remains open throughout. It has not published rates for the new garage.

Garage vs Other Ways to Park

The Garage costs $9/day more than Economy, and what you pay for is cover and the shortest walk.

  • Garage: $22/day, covered, short walk.
  • Terminal Lots A and B: $16/day, uncovered, short walk on a sidewalk path.
  • Economy Lots C and G: $13/day, shuttle bus every 15 minutes, 24/7.
  • Off-site: USA PARKING Knoxville Airport, 1.3 miles away, came to $65.40 for a sample 7-day booking (about $9.35/day), with $42.76 of that paid at the lot. Triply prices are for a sample 7-day booking (check-in 10 AM on 13 November, check-out 2 PM on 19 November 2026), include taxes and fees, and change by date. See our Knoxville airport hotel park and fly guide.

For a one-week trip, the Garage costs $154 against $91 in Economy. You can also compare TYS parking on Triply.
