As of October 2026, the Economy Lot at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth (BHM) costs $10.00/day ($2.00/hour), and its shuttle runs continuously, 24/7, between the lot and the terminal. It is the airport's cheapest official parking for long stays, but you cannot reserve it. Two off-site lots bookable on Triply came in at about $8 and $10/day for a sample week.

How the BHM Economy Shuttle Works

A BHM airport shuttle carries you and your luggage between the Economy Lot and the terminal, and it runs continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The airport does not publish a set interval in minutes, only that shuttles run continuously. Leave a little extra time for the shuttle and loading bags, especially at busy morning departure times. On your return, take the shuttle from the terminal back to the lot.

Where Is BHM Economy Parking?

The Economy Lot is on Airline Drive near the terminal area: turn right off Messer Airport Highway at University Avenue, then turn left onto Airline Drive.

The airport also describes it as "just to the right" when you head up Messer Airport Highway. The free Cell Phone Lot is on the same road, at 5600 Airline Drive.

BHM Economy Parking Cost

Economy costs $2.00/hour up to $10.00/day, which makes a week about $70.

Over a week, Economy saves about $49 against the Daily section of the deck and about $112 against Hourly. Our BHM parking rates breakdown shows every facility side by side.

Triply prices are for a sample booking from 10 AM on 13 November to 2 PM on 19 November 2026 (billed as 7 days), include taxes and fees, and change by date. The Economy total is a range because BHM does not publish how it bills the last few hours of a stay.

  • Choose Economy if you want an airport-run lot, a shuttle you do not have to call, and service at any hour.
  • Choose Ramada by Wyndham for the lowest total, as long as you are not landing between 11 PM and 4:30 AM, when its shuttle does not run.
  • Choose National for a 24/7 on-demand shuttle and a staffed lot at about the same price as Economy.

Both off-site lots give a 100% refund if you cancel up to the day of arrival. Read the BHM off-site parking comparison for check-in and pickup details.

Economy vs the Parking Deck: Is the Walk Worth $7 a Day?

For most trips longer than a day, Economy is the better value, because the deck's Daily section costs $7 more per day for a shorter walk.

The deck sits next to the terminal, so you skip the shuttle entirely, which helps if you are running late, traveling with small children or carrying a lot of luggage. On a weekend trip of two days, the difference is $14. On a week, it is about $49. If the shuttle is not a problem for you, that money stays in your pocket.

Avoid the Hourly section on level 3 for anything overnight. It shares the deck with Daily but caps at $26/day, more than double Economy. The airport intends Hourly for stays under 4 hours.

Using the Economy Lot for Pick-Ups

If you are collecting someone rather than flying, you do not need the Economy Lot: the free Cell Phone Lot at 5600 Airline Drive is for drivers waiting on arriving passengers.

It holds up to 40 vehicles, has no time limit, and you must stay with your car. When your passenger calls, drive to the Arrivals curb on the ground level.

Tips for Using BHM Economy Parking

A few habits make the Economy Lot easier, especially on a busy travel day.

  • Note your row. Take a photo of a nearby sign or landmark before you board the shuttle.
  • Tall vehicles: the deck's Hourly and Daily areas have a 6'2" limit. Oversized parking is currently on level 1 of the deck (8'2" limit), and the airport says it will soon move to the Economy Lot.
  • Dead battery when you get back? The Birmingham Airport Authority will jump-start your car free of charge. Call 205-599-0726.
  • Accessible parking: all BHM parking facilities have accessible spaces for vehicles with a valid permit.
