Christmas and New Year Parking at Dulles Airport (2026–27): Costs, Peak Days and When to Book

Parking in Dulles's Garages 1 and 2 costs $25 a day, the Economy Lot $20 and Terminal Parking $40, as of October 2026. On Triply, the cheapest lot for the Christmas trip (Dec 23–28, 2026) is Hyatt Regency Dulles Airport at $12.64 per day all-in with a shuttle, and for the New Year trip (Dec 30, 2026 to Jan 3, 2027) it is $13.41 per day; both are under the airport's own economy rate. Book Christmas parking by Friday Dec 11 and New Year parking by Friday Dec 18, 2026. In 2025, TSA's heaviest holiday days were the Sunday after Christmas and the Friday to Sunday before Christmas week, and the 2026 calendar lines up the same way.

Dulles parking costs over Christmas and New Year

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority runs Terminal Parking (the closest self-park, by underground walkway), Garages 1 and 2 (walkways plus a free 24/7 garage shuttle from Curb 2F), the Economy Lot (free shuttle every 15 minutes, about a 15-minute ride), curbside and Service Center valet, and a free cell phone lot. The official Dulles parking page says that "Reserving your parking is the only way to guarantee your space and price" and that "In the event that a facility fills, reservations will still be honored." As of October 2026 the posted drive-up daily maximums are $40 for Terminal Parking, $25 for Garages 1 and 2, $20 for the Economy Lot, $45 for curbside valet (day one) and $39 for Service Center valet. Reserved prices are not published on the airport's rate pages.

Compared with the two off-site lots on Triply, all-in per day for each sample trip:

Official figures are the airport's posted drive-up daily maximums as of October 2026 and apply to both trips. Hyatt Regency at $12.64 and $13.41 is about half the $25 garage rate and $6.59 to $7.36 a day under the $20 Economy Lot. DoubleTree at $19.26 beats the Economy Lot by $0.74 over Christmas but costs $0.72 more than it over New Year, while staying under the garage rate on both trips.

Christmas week timeline at Dulles

Christmas Day is Friday Dec 25, 2026. Dulles has not published a Christmas parking advisory as of October 2026 (its holiday travel page is still the 2026 summer guide), and TSA has not published a 2026 Christmas forecast, so the pattern below comes from TSA's 2025 release with the 2026 dates mapped onto it.

Saturday Dec 19 to Wednesday Dec 23: outbound peak. In 2025, TSA listed Dec 19, 20 and 21 among its heaviest days of the holiday period (TSA, Dec 22, 2025), which in 2026 is the Saturday to Monday before Christmas week. Wednesday Dec 23 is the last full travel day before the holiday and the check-in date of the sample trip. Expect full shuttles and a wait at the hotel front desk, since both lots require you to check in there before parking.

Thursday Dec 24 and Friday Dec 25: the quiet days. Flights run, roads are lighter, and the garages are easiest to enter. The question is shuttle hours, covered below.

Saturday Dec 26 to Monday Dec 28: return peak. TSA's heaviest day of the 2025 period was Sunday Dec 28, at a projected 2.86 million screened nationally. In 2026 the Sunday after Christmas is Dec 27 and the sample trip returns Monday Dec 28, so both days bring crowded baggage claims and a queue at the hotel-shuttle curbs.

Airport advisories. As of October 2026 the Dulles parking page carries no holiday notice and no December rate change. Its standing guidance, from its travel guide, is to arrive two hours before a domestic flight and three before an international one, and to reserve parking "well in advance to guarantee space."

New Year timeline at Dulles

New Year's Day is Friday Jan 1, 2027. The sample trip checks in Wednesday Dec 30 and returns Sunday Jan 3.

Wednesday Dec 30 and Thursday Dec 31: outbound. TSA's 2025 release named Dec 29 among the heavy days, so this trip starts right after a peak.

Friday Jan 1: quiet. The lightest travel day of the stretch. If you fly on Jan 1, your concern is whether the lot's shuttle runs, not whether the garage has space.

Saturday Jan 2 and Sunday Jan 3: return. The 2025 holiday period ran through Sunday Jan 4, with the final weekend carrying the return traffic. In 2026–27 that weekend is Jan 2–3, the sample trip's return dates. Plan for the same shuttle queue as the Sunday after Christmas.

Shuttle hours on Christmas Day and New Year's Day

Neither listing states separate holiday hours. This is the schedule each listing publishes, applied to Dec 25 and Jan 1.

• Hyatt Regency Dulles Airport describes "24/7 Shuttle operation": every 30 minutes from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, leaving the hotel at the top and bottom of the hour, then on demand from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM. So it runs on both holidays, with overnight pickups by request. On return, follow the Hotel Shuttle signs to Curb 2B or 2G outside lower-level baggage claim and be at the curb 10 or 40 minutes past the hour. Give the lot stop an hour: about 15 minutes to register at the front desk, up to 30 minutes for the next bus, and a short ride from 1.9 miles out.
• DoubleTree Washington Dulles Airport runs every 30 minutes from 4:00 AM to 12:00 AM, at the top and bottom of the hour, and has no shuttle between midnight and 4:00 AM. Terminal pickups are by phone during those hours only. The listing recommends arriving at the lot at least one hour before your intended departure to check in, get a security sticker and load luggage. A landing between midnight and 4:00 AM on either holiday means your own ride for that leg.

Both shuttles are 30-minute services, so a missed bus costs a full half hour. If your flight falls on Dec 25 or Jan 1, confirm the schedule with the hotel by phone the day before.

Booking advice for both trips

Book Christmas parking by Friday Dec 11, 2026, and New Year parking by Friday Dec 18, 2026. The per-day prices above are what the two sample trips showed on Oct 30, 2026; later searches for the same dates can show higher prices or fewer lots, and with only two Triply lots at Dulles there is little slack.

Minimum stay. Hyatt Regency Dulles Airport requires a 4-day minimum booking. The Christmas trip is five nights, so it qualifies. The New Year trip is exactly four nights and the lot returned a price for it, so it qualifies too; for a shorter stay, DoubleTree, which has no minimum, would be your only Triply option.

Cancellation. Each lot's cancellation terms are shown on its listing before you pay. Read them before you book, especially if your flights are not yet ticketed. Triply lots are prepaid, so there is nothing to settle at the hotel.
