Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is American Airlines' largest hub worldwide — 87.8 million passengers in 2024 (a record), with 25+ airlines, 260+ destinations, and 900+ daily departures. It's the second-largest airport in the U.S. by land area (17,207 acres) and the third-busiest globally by passenger traffic. DFW is so large it has its own zip code (75261), city designation, police department, and power plant.
The airport sits between Dallas and Fort Worth, straddling four cities. Five terminals (A, B, C, D, E) are connected airside by the free Skylink automated people mover, running every 2 minutes 24/7.
On-airport parking at DFW is moderate. Terminal Garages are $27/day, Express Parking is $10/day uncovered ($15 covered), Remote Parking is $10/day, and Valet is $34/day. Off-airport parking through Triply starts at around $4.95/day pre-booked — saving up to 80% compared to terminal garages. Pre-booking on dfwairport.com/park/ saves up to 50%.
Ausby Airport Parking — The cheapest at around $4.95/day pre-booked. WARNING: Free shuttle runs only 10 AM–9:30 PM. After-hours pickup (9:31 PM–9:59 AM) costs $25 + tax extra. Best for daytime travelers willing to plan around the shuttle window.
Red Roof Inn Dallas DFW Airport North — Around $5.49/day pre-booked. Hotel parking near the north entrance. 24/7 front desk helps with late arrivals. Confirm shuttle hours before booking.
Days Inn by Wyndham DFW Airport North — Around $5.99/day pre-booked. Budget-friendly hotel parking 3 miles out. Verify shuttle schedule.
Clarion Inn & Suites North DFW Airport — Around $6.49/day pre-booked. Mid-range option with hotel-quality security. Good for park-sleep-fly packages.
The Parking Spot North / South — Around $8.95/day pre-booked. 24/7 on-demand shuttle — shuttles depart from your vehicle, no walking. Both covered and uncovered options. Loyalty rewards. Choose North or South based on your approach direction.
The Parking Spot Premium — Around $11.95/day pre-booked. Premium tier with priority shuttle service. Covered parking + car wash service while you travel.
DFW is one of the few U.S. airports served by multiple independent rail systems:
DART Orange Line ($3 single ride) — Direct service from Terminal A to downtown Dallas in ~50 minutes. Stops at Beltline, Irving, Market Center, West End, Akard, St. Paul, Cityplace (Uptown), and Mockingbird (SMU). Runs every 15 minutes peak, every 30 minutes late night.
DART Silver Line ($3 single ride) — New as of October 2025. Connects Terminal B to Plano, Richardson, Addison, Carrollton, and Coppell. Best for travelers headed to north Dallas suburbs.
Trinity Metro TEXRail ($2.50 single ride) — Direct service from Terminal B to downtown Fort Worth in ~50 minutes. Stops at Grapevine Main Street and North Richland Hills. The cheapest rail option from DFW.
For Dallas-bound travelers, DART at $3 is dramatically cheaper than the $57 flat-rate taxi. For Fort Worth-bound travelers, TEXRail at $2.50 beats the $55–$65 metered taxi. A round trip on either line for two people is $10–$12 — less than 2 days at any on-airport parking option.
The catch: 50 minutes is the typical rail trip vs 30–45 minutes by car. Best for travelers without time pressure.
DFW is in the middle of a $12+ billion expansion program — the largest in airport history.
• Terminal F ($4 billion) — Brand new 6th terminal. 31 gates total when complete, exclusively American Airlines. Phase 1 (15 gates + new Skylink station) opens May 2027. Built using innovative modular construction — six prefabricated megastructure modules (largest weighing 3,320 tons) moved via self-propelled transporters.
• Terminal A Expansion — 10 gates (5 rebuilt, 5 new) in ~140,000 sq ft. Completion late 2026.
• Terminal C Renovation ($3 billion) — 9 new or rebuilt gates and expanded concourse. Phase opening mid-2026.
• Skylink Station for Terminal F ($79M) — Opens with Terminal F Phase 1 in 2027.
Construction is ongoing but the airport remains fully operational. Some roadway detours possible. Terminal C travelers may encounter temporary walkway changes. No parking facility closures expected.
• Pre-book on dfwairport.com/park/ — Saves up to 50% vs walk-up rates. The Express Parking at $10/day uncovered drops further when pre-booked.
• Verify off-site shuttle hours — Ausby's free shuttle runs 10 AM–9:30 PM only ($25 after-hours fee). Days Inn, Red Roof Inn, and Clarion shuttles run on schedules. The Parking Spot North/South run 24/7 on-demand.
• Skylink connects all terminals — Free, every 2 minutes, 24/7. Full loop in ~13 minutes. Essential for connecting flights or if you arrive at the wrong terminal.
• Watch for ice storms in winter — North Texas ice storms are DFW's Achilles heel. A major ice event can ground 1,000+ flights and strand travelers for 2–3 days. Travel insurance is strongly recommended for December–February travel.
• Tornado season March–June — Severe thunderstorms with hail and tornadoes are common spring–early summer. Ground stops typically last 1–3 hours.
• Westin DFW is on-airport — The only hotel directly on DFW property. Walk to Terminal A. Premium option for early flights or late arrivals.
• NTTA TollTag for Express/Remote — Express and Remote parking lots accept credit cards or NTTA TollTag with credit card on file. NO cash at these lots.
