Nashville International Airport (BNA) has been one of the fastest-growing major airports in America — passenger volume surged over 80% since 2014, hitting 23.7 million passengers in a record 2024. The boom is driven by Nashville's tourism economy: live music, food culture, NFL/MLB events, and the city's status as the #1 bachelorette party destination in the U.S.
BNA sits 8 miles southeast of downtown Nashville with a single terminal, five concourses, and 53 gates. Southwest Airlines is the dominant carrier (Concourse D exclusive). On-airport parking is moderate by major-airport standards — Terminal Garages charge $26/day, Economy Lots $16/day, and Valet $40/day. Off-airport lots through Triply start at around $7.95/day pre-booked, saving up to 70% compared to terminal garages.
For a 7-day trip for 2 travelers, off-site parking saves $116–$126 vs the on-airport Terminal Garage.
GLo Best Western Nashville Airport — The cheapest at around $7.95/day. Hotel lot, 1.8 miles from BNA. No hotel stay required. Verify shuttle hours before booking — may not run 24/7.
Comfort Suites BNA Airport — Around $8.95/day pre-booked. Hotel parking at 2521 Elm Hill Pike, 2 miles out. Hourly shuttle frequency is the catch — works best when your schedule aligns with shuttle times.
Holiday Inn Express Nashville Airport — Around $9/day pre-booked. Reliable IHG brand, 1.5 miles from BNA. Free shuttle during scheduled hours.
Cambria Hotel Nashville Airport — Around $9/day pre-booked. Modern hotel 1.5 miles out. Shuttle every 30 minutes from 5 AM to 11 PM. WARNING: No shuttle outside those hours — avoid for red-eye or very late flights.
Executive Travel & Parking — Around $9.50/day pre-booked. One of the most established off-site lots near BNA. 24/7 shuttle every 15–20 minutes is a major advantage. Fenced and continuously video-monitored.
Sheraton Music City Hotel — Around $9.99/day. Full-service hotel parking with shuttle 2.5 miles from BNA. Premium hotel amenities available.
Nashville's airport is in the middle of a $1.4 billion New Horizon expansion program — successor to the recently completed BNA Vision project. Key 2026 status:
• Concourse A Complete Reconstruction — Currently CLOSED for full rebuild. Reopens July 2028 with 16 modern gates. Airlines previously using A have been relocated to other concourses.
• Concourse D Extension (COMPLETED July 2025) — 5 new gates, new concessions, and BNA's first outdoor terrace with views of the Nashville skyline. Southwest exclusive.
• Donelson Pike Relocation — Major road realignment scheduled for completion in 2026. May cause temporary detours when accessing the airport.
• Satellite Concourse (Gates C4–C11) — Opened October 2023. Accessed by shuttle bus from near gate C2.
The airport remains fully operational. Donelson Pike construction may cause temporary detours, so allow extra time for airport access during peak periods.
BNA's traffic is uniquely event-driven. Some of the busiest periods you should know about:
Bachelorette season (March–June) — Nashville is the #1 bachelorette destination in the U.S. Large groups arrive every Friday and depart every Sunday — driving massive weekend traffic from spring through early summer.
CMA Fest (early June) — 80,000+ attendees create one of the year's biggest spikes.
NFL Titans (September–January) — Home game weekends spike both arrivals and departures.
SEC Tournament (March), Nashville Marathon (April), Bonnaroo weekend (June) — All push traffic well above baseline.
For all of these, pre-book parking 1–2 weeks ahead and arrive 2.5–3 hours before departure. The $25 flat-rate taxi to downtown Nashville is reliable, but rideshare surge during Broadway nights, CMA Fest, and bachelorette weekends can push fares to $60–$90.
• Verify shuttle hours — Several BNA off-site hotel lots have limited shuttle hours. Cambria Hotel runs 5 AM–11 PM only. Comfort Suites runs hourly. Executive Travel & Parking runs 24/7. Always confirm shuttle availability matches your flight times.
• Watch for ice storms in winter — Nashville is prone to ice storms (December–February). Even moderate ice can paralyze the airport for 1–2 days. Travel insurance is recommended for winter travel.
• Single security checkpoint — All BNA passengers funnel through one centralized security checkpoint. During CMA Fest, holidays, and bachelorette season, waits can hit 30–45 minutes. TSA PreCheck or CLEAR significantly speeds this up.
• Rental cars are inside Terminal Garage 2 — Unlike many airports, BNA has all 11 rental car counters directly in Terminal Garage 2 on Level 1. Walk from baggage claim to your rental car — no shuttle needed.
• Live music in the terminal — BNA features dedicated live music stages in the terminal. The Arts at the Airport stage in Concourse C hosts professional Nashville musicians regularly.
• Use the WeGo Route 18 bus only if you have time — At $2 per ride, it's the cheapest option but runs only hourly and takes 32 minutes to downtown.
