Newark Airport Parking — Where Off-Site Saves the Most

Newark Liberty International Airport handled approximately 47 million passengers in 2025, making it the second-busiest airport in the New York metro system behind JFK. United Airlines accounts for about 68% of all traffic, with hub operations centered in Terminal C.

EWR's parking is among the most expensive in the country. P1 (Terminal A short-term) maxes out at $65/day. P2 (Terminal B) and P3 (Terminal C) are $70/day. Even P6 Economy Lot drive-up is $35/day. Off-airport parking through Triply starts at around $5.95/day pre-booked — saving up to 90% compared to terminal lots.

For a 6-day trip for 2 travelers, off-site parking saves $84–$130 vs P6 Economy. And there's a hidden cost EWR travelers should know about: the AirTrain access fee. Public transit riders pay $8.75/person at the RailLink station to connect to NJ Transit. Off-site lots with direct terminal shuttles eliminate that fee entirely — saving a couple $34.50 round-trip on top of parking savings.

ABC Airport Parking — Around $8.99/day pre-booked. 1.8 miles in Elizabeth, NJ. Free shuttle every 10 minutes, 24/7. $6 one-time service fee on top of daily rate.

AirTrain Construction Closures — What to Know in 2026

EWR's 1996 monorail AirTrain is being replaced with a new $3.5 billion cable-driven system (opening 2030). Construction broke ground October 2025 and creates significant 2026 traveler impacts:

January 15 – September 29, 2026: AirTrain suspended on weekdays from 5 AM to 3 PM. Free shuttle buses replace AirTrain during closures.

September 30 – October 30, 2026: Full closure — shuttle buses only.

October 30, 2026 onwards: To be announced.

The replacement shuttles connect terminals, P4, RailLink station, and the rental car facility — but they take longer than AirTrain. Allow 15–30 extra minutes for transit during 2026.

For travelers using off-site parking with direct terminal shuttles, AirTrain closures don't affect you. This is one of the strongest arguments for off-site parking at EWR in 2026 — your shuttle goes directly to the terminal regardless of AirTrain status.

EWR's New Terminal A and What's Next

New Terminal A opened January 2023 — a $2.7 billion replacement that won Skytrax's "best new airport terminal" award in 2024 and a 5-star Skytrax rating. 33 gates across 3 concourses, all served by a single central security checkpoint, so passengers can move freely between concourses post-security.

What's coming:

American Express Centurion Lounge — Opening 2026 in Terminal A. Brand new lounge in the newest terminal.

Terminal B Replacement — Slated for full demolition and rebuild via public-private partnership. Procurement begins 2026–2027.

AirTrain Newark Replacement — New cable-driven system opening 2030.

Capital Plan Improvements — $45 billion record capital plan covering airport-wide upgrades.

Important: Terminal B has SEPARATE security checkpoints at each concourse (B1, B2, B3) — passengers cannot move freely between B1, B2, and B3 without re-clearing security. Verify your gate before entering security at Terminal B.

Tips for Parking at EWR

Pre-book online for 28–36% savings — Pre-booking at newarkairport.com or directly with off-site lots dramatically reduces costs vs drive-up.

AirTrain closures don't affect off-site lots — During the 2026 AirTrain weekday suspensions, off-site parking with direct terminal shuttles becomes even more valuable. Your shuttle goes directly to the terminal.

Verify Terminal B concourse before security — Terminal B has separate checkpoints at B1, B2, and B3. If you go through the wrong one, you'll need to exit and re-clear security.

Many off-site lots charge a $6 service fee — E-Z Way, ABC, and some others add a one-time $6 fee on top of daily rates. Factor this into total cost comparisons.

No flat-rate taxi to Manhattan — Unlike JFK, EWR has metered taxis only. Manhattan trips run $80–$120 with tolls. Rideshare ranges $55–$90 (no surge) up to $100–$180 during peak hours.

Check on-time stats — EWR was historically one of the worst U.S. airports for delays but improved significantly to ~84% on-time in mid-2025 after FAA capacity caps.

The Westin Newark Liberty Marriott is on-airport — Connected to the airport via shuttle, with 7-night park-and-fly packages available.
